“Smells are surer than sights and sounds to make the heart strings crack.” That’s the motto of Illumens, a family run company based in Suffolk making the most elegantly perfumed candles and diffusers. Caroline Hardy and her partner develop the fragrances themselves and kindly sent me a selection of their best-selling scented products to share with you.
TEA: In the summer, I love to drink my cup of tea outside, have it as something to relax me as I unwind; bare feet propped up on a chair while I read a magazine and sip on soothing warm tea. In the winter, a cup of tea is a welcomed warmer to thaw out frozen fingers. Being something that has its place in every season and finding a purpose in every occasion; work, rest and play, I thought it best to drink the nation's favourite medicine from beautiful cups that can be enjoyed all year round.
Do we need something new for every occasion? Probably not. But I can sympathise with those who want to change up their wardrobes for different events and work a fresh new look. Although, this shouldn’t necessarily mean having to buy something new each season. Why not invest in items that allow you to get creative and lend themselves to being accessorised and styled?
We are a generation who love to travel. Gap year travelling through India? Why not. Erasmus study abroad? Ok. Why do we browse flights every few months? To discover new places, to have wild adventures, to visit friends, to lose yourself, to find yourself, to inspire...
I had visited the Czech Republic only once before, and that was a few years ago in the summer after graduating, when a friend and I flew into Prague to begin a little three country tour in those sun-filled months. We hadn’t ventured out of the capital and I don’t think I would have returned to explore more of the country, having left Prague feeling satisfied we’d seen a great deal and had had a truly Czech experience - but that all changed when a friend invited me to visit his home, in the rural town of Nachod, North East of the Czech Republic and this time, in mid-winter.
On the brink of the New Year, I’d like to take a moment to say a big, emphatic thank you to the designers, brands and artists I’ve worked with over the past few months! Just a few hours away till the New Year, I'd also like to share with you some changes to Olive Road Journal and what you can look forward to from us in 2016!
