Do we need something new for every occasion? Probably not. But I can sympathise with those who want to change up their wardrobes for different events and work a fresh new look. Although, this shouldn’t necessarily mean having to buy something new each season. Why not invest in items that allow you to get creative and lend themselves to being accessorised and styled?
Lowie is a gorgeous, vintage inspired fashion label and one which I admire for their dedication to producing collections as ethically as possible. Founded by designer, Bronwyn Lowenthal in 2002, Lowie’s philosophy has always been: "to create beautifully designed clothes with minimal environmental impact." In an industry characterised by worker exploitation, Lowie do their utmost to ensure that their workers are happy and are insistent on fair pay.
I’ve seen Lowie in boutiques around London and their simple yet refined staple pieces have always caught my eye as being timeless and easy to style. Not to mention their clothes are created from the softest wools and organic cottons which means they are incredibly warm and comforting to wear.
This chic, ethical fashion labled is worn by fashionista such as Lily Cole, Fearne Cotton and Liberty Ross. As we move out of the Winter and steadily towards the Spring, I’ve teamed up with Lowie to style their Red Check Detachable Tunic. I've created two distinct looks, perfect for transcending the seasons in style.
Look 1: Casual, Paired down with jeans
Having lived in Edinburgh, I am partial to a bit of tartan and I absolutely love the chunky red and navy check pattern of this top.
For this look, I've kept the full length of the tunic top; the detachable bottom fastens together with gorgeous, large covered buttons at the front and back.
I’ve paired the top down with skinny jeans for a casual, daytime look. Wearing tunic tops/dresses over jeans keeps the overall look feminine and the layering over the jeans gives that extra bit of warmth and comfort needed this time of year. There’s no getting away from the fact this is a luxuriously soft and cosy little number. Made from 100% cotton, it’s the perfect tunic for this season when, despite the cold, you’re itching to get out in the fresh air.
Look 2: Evening wear, cropped top with a skirt
For my second look I’ve removed the attachable bottom which transforms the piece into a beautiful crop top. I tend gravitate towards loose fitting tops, for me it’s the elegance of wearing something that hangs in it's shape that I find particularly attractive. The top has a round neck and wide three quarter length sleeves. It’s an artsy piece that makes a statement.
I’ve paired the top with a pencil skirt for a more sophisticated look. The combination of the fitted skirt in a block colour with the over-sized, patterned top works really well. This is a perfect pairing for an evening outfit so I’ve accessorized with big silver earrings from Accessorize and slipped into my peep toe heels from Clarks to set it off. I love the rich colours in the top and finally decided on my light grey Winter coat from Gap to really make these 'pop.'
The top’s enveloping shape at full length means that as we move into Spring and are met with bright warm days, it can be paired with leggings and tights. I’m wearing it here with my Fillipa Dots stockings from Swedish Stockings as I caught some sun one a bright day in February - can you believe it!
